About the event
For intermediate and advanced Contact Improvisers.
Where do we go when we have been dancing Contact Improvisation for a while and become aware of our habitual ways of moving? They can become limiting or even frustrating.
What might we discover by stepping beyond our learnt movement vocabulary and opening to the unknown?
A workshop for deeper exploration of truly improvising in Contact.
We will work with fundamental patterns that support clear and coherent dances in duets, trios and groups, and offer approaches and ideas to playfully, yet mindfully challenge and ‘break’ these forms.
We will explore ideas around disruption and saying ‘No’ without creating unnecessary risk or endangering our dance partners.

Opening to the unknown may require letting go of our preconceptions about the ‘right way’ to move — and a softness of both body and mind.
Beginning with the subtle mechanics of the ‘small dance’, we will move through duets into open exploration, widening our collective perception and moving together as an interconnected whole.
We will cultivate a deeper awareness of listening, breathing, giving, receiving and timing, while navigating the space between technique and poetry, structure and freedom — as playful beings in motion.
The workshop will be held in English.
We will organize translation if necessary.
